The International Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest (May)

One of the most important international programs for young musicians in the country. The first contest in Romania, acknowledged in 1996 by the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY), aims to reveal talents, to support their development and their promotion. The great deal of competitors (300) and participant countries (50) represent a record for this kind of events organized in Romania, confirming the fame of this event, as well as the fact that it is a leader at national level. The contest takes place alternatively for violin and piano, respective piano, clarinet and composition.

The International Festival and Canto Competition Hariclea Darclee (July)

It takes place in Braila under the aegis of The Master Courses Artistic Craftsmanship, offered by the soprano Mariana Nicolesco. Awarded with the Honour Medal of the Academy in 1993, Mariana Nicolesco was declared the Musician of the Year in Berlin, in 2003. In 2004 she became the soprano with the most absolute premiéres in Scala di Milano. She is the founding president of The International Foundation "Romanian Atheaneum" in Bucharest and of the similar foundation in New York and the initiator of this international festival, that one decay after its creation has been host for 1200 participants from 40 countries.

The International Festival and Competition "George Enescu" (September)

It was founded in 1958 as an homage to the work of the great Romanian composer, aiming to present and to promote Enescu’s work with the help of great musicians coming from all over the world. The first editions of the festival gathered famous personalities such as Yehudi Menuhin, David Oistrach, Sviatoslav Richter, Herbert von Karajan, Aram Haciaturian, Arthur Rubinstein. Great philarmonic orchestras from Romania and from abroad performed here during the 16 editions: "George Enescu Philarmonic Orchestra", "Banatul Philarmonic Orchestra"- Timisoara, Radio Philarmonic Orchestra, Romanian Opera Orchestra from Bucharest and the Chamber and Symphony Orchestras in Vienna, Los Angeles, Moscow, Warsaw, Leipzig, London, Sofia, Prague, Dresden, Kishinev, Madrid, Rome, Chicago, Budapest, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Köln, Zürich.

The "Golden Stag" International Music Festival (September)

It takes place yearly in Piata Sfatului in Brasov. Having the first edition in 1968, The Golden Stag is an interpretation competition that aims to promote the talents in Romania and abroad. Among the artists who performed on the stage of the festival count: Diana Ross, Sheryl Crow, Waldo, Tom Jones, Vaya con Dios, Kenny Rogers, Ricky Martin, Kelly Family, Simple Minds, Ray Charles, UB 40, Kylie Minogue, Toto Cutugno, Patricia Kaas, Jerry Lee Lewis, INXS, Boyz II Men.

The International Jazz Festival (October)

It takes place every autumn in Bucharest. The first edition took place in 1999, and since then the organizer, ArCub, The Centre for Cultural Projects of the City of Bucharest decided that the festival would last longer and have more famous guests from the national and international world every year. During this period a lot of personalities participated- John Surman, Eric LeLann, Kenny Garrett, Richard Galliano, Michel Portal, Guido Manusardi, Michel Camilo.

The International Theatre Festival in Sibiu (May-June)

It is a reference event of the artistic national and international community, with participants from all over the world gathered with the occasion of the festival and of the other connected events: The Performance Market, meetings of some European cultural networks, the program "Performances in fortresses", reading-performances and radio phonic theatre, the meeting of the Theatre Schools and Academies, specialized workshops.

The International Film Festival Transylvania (May-June)

It is the only international film festival in Romania designated exclusively to full-length films gathers actors, directors and journalists from abroad with personalities of the Romanian cinematography, being a member of The Alliance of Central and Eastern Europe Film Festivals in.

Anonimul International Film Festival (August-September)

It takes place in the Danube Delta, in the city of Sfantul Gheorghe, is a competition with three sections- full-length film, documentary, and short-reel film. The program of the festival also includes the homage of the festival to a personality in the cinematography field, and special projections. In 2005, 800 films went in for the selection for the sections documentary and short-reel film, among which 12 documentaries and 48 short-reel film remained in the competition.

The Dakino International Film Festival (November)

It took place for the first time in 1991 as an event meant to promote national students’ short-reel films. During the 14 editions the festival received an increasing international opening, as a result of the direct contact to cinema men like Costa Gavras, Emir Kusturica, Vittorio Taviani, Charlotte Rampling, Marisa Berenson, Giuliano Gemma, Christophe Lambert, Nicola Piovani, Bertrand Tavernier. Still, the festival remained true to short-reel film. Dakino is listed in the imposing catalogue Carrefour des Festivals and in Variety Guide Film Festivals. Since 2004 Dakino received the respected quality of member of the Coordination Européene des Festivals de Cinéma.

The Medieval Festival in Sighisoara (July)

Three days a year the city of Sighisoara enjoys a cultural-artistic program with medieval touch- theatre performances, vocal-instrumental groups and soloists who have a medieval repertory or a medieval source of inspiration. Mimes, troubadours, figurants in medieval costumes, prophets, astrologers, fortune tellers and medieval soldiers that guard the fortress complete the atmosphere.

The National Festival of the Popular Traditions (September)

in Dumbrava Sibiului, county of Sibiu, was inspired by the model of The Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, where Romania participated with success in 2000. The festival aims to emphasize the cultural, material and spiritual treasure of the rural communities in Romania, preserver of popular traditions. Representatives of the counties from the three major folkloric areas in Romania participate in the festival. The 400 participants (of which 50 representatives from two invited countries) will perform within the framework of the specific programs of the traditional culture they represent, on the basis of the 7 arts of the popular culture system: religious, literary, musical, ludic, plastic, culinary and mechanic arts.

BCR Open Romania (September)

It took place for the first time in 1996. The competition in Bucharest, organized under the patronage of Ion Tiriac, gathered during its 10 editions remarkable personalities of the tennis world such as Boris Becker, Alberto Berasategui, Andrea Gaudenzi, Carlos Moya, Alberto Martin, Ferrer David, Francisco Clavet, Alex Corretja, Albert Portas, Younes El Aynaoui, Acasuso Jose, Mariano Puerta.
